MDC visit the Russian Icebreaker vessel “Akademik Trysnikov” (22 March 2017)

MDC visited the Russian icebreaker in Cape Town port, organised by the Hydrographic Society of South Africa. The “Akademik Trysnikov” has just completed her Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) programme for the Swiss Polar Institute. Research focus was on the recent freshening of the Southern Ocean. MDC Team-builder – Felix Unite, Breede River (10 – 14 February 2017)

The entire MDC team and immediate family (excluding Andrew Birkett – who was getting married in Sweden and unavailable to attend), enjoyed a fun-filled adventure weekend on the Breede River. Activities included river rafting, abseiling, zip-lining, fishing and adventure competitions. Fun was had by all, and we hope to repeat a similar Team-builder in 2018!

MDC purchase DJI Inspire-1 UAV Drone (18 October 2016)

MDC Friday Lunch Braai and Black Sea Survey Presentation (30 September 2016, MDC Office)

Andrew Birkett gave a fascinating presentation of the preliminary findings from the recent MMT survey of the Black Sea and historical wreck sites on board the Stril Explorer. The survey included an international team, involving the University of Southampton’s Centre for Maritime Archaeology, funded by the Expedition and Education Foundation (EFF).

Geodetic Training Workshop (15-16 June 2016, MDC Office)

The MDC survey team were given a dedicated 2-day Geodetic Workshop by Richard Wannacott, Geodetic Specialist at Umvoto Africa (Pty) Ltd. Richard took us through Geoids, Ellipsoids, Reference Systems and Projections as applied to geodesy and surveying in general. He then ended the Workshop by expanding on the principles of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)

MDC moved into our new office at 108 Kommetjie Road, Fish Hoek. The new premises now means we have all services and equipment under a single roof, with ample space for continued growth. MDC Perform SBES Bathy Survey for Beach Petroleum Tanzania
